Stay the Course

by Speedy Sneakers Walking and Running Clubs for Women

Many times in life, you hear the phrase, “Stay the Course.” In Wikipedia, we find the meaning of the term. "Stay the Course" is a phrase used in the context of a war or battle meaning to pursue a goal regardless of any obstacles or criticism.

Regardless of the situation, war, sport and life, the phrase, “stay the course” can be applied to just about any situation. It especially can be applied to the achievement of goals. To be successful at achieving goals, we typically start out by charting a path to our goal. For instance, let’s say we want to run a 5km race in under 30 minutes. This is our goal, “Run 5km in Under 30 Minutes.” We chart our goal by planning our training program around the goal. We may be specific about the type of training we will do to get to the goal, endurance, speed, hills and rest can be incorporated. The planning phase is a vital step to ensure our goals ultimate success.

Though the planning stage is vitally important, it is by no means not the hardest part of the achievement of the goal. The hardest part is the mental side of the goal. That part that is difficult to plan for and very difficult to overcome when obstacles begin to mount which make the goal just that more difficult to achieve. This is where “Stay the Course” becomes so important. We don’t need to sugar coat it. The ability to constantly keep focus and motivation on the goal is difficult and hard. However, overcoming the obstacles by “Staying the Course” will ultimately make it easier to reach your goal. As you slowly make your way towards your goal by overcoming the obstacles, you will find that achieving your goal will begin to get easier. Your mindset will change from one that sees the difficulty in the goal to one that sees only success ahead. This is the mindset of champions. There lives a champion in everyone, regardless of age, gender, and ability. You are a champion, you just need to realize it by following through on your goals.
